Introduction
Read the Headline Story to the students. Encourage them to think about who has the most marbles, possible totals for all three collections, and any patterns in the totals.
Headline Story
Tammy, Tommy, and Matty brought their marble collections to school. Tammy had four more marbles than Tommy. Matty had four more marbles than Tammy.
Possible student responses
- Matty had 8 more marbles than Tommy.
- Tommy had the fewest marbles.
- Some possibilities are:
