Introduction
Display the Headline Story pictured in the sidebar to the class. Have children fill in the frames and make up a story to match their number sentences. Children should see that the same number must go in both triangles. Encourage them to be creative.
Possible student responses
- One spider has 8 legs. Two spiders have 16 legs, so 8 + 8 = 16.
- Mom ate one and a half muffins and Dad ate one and a half muffins, so 1½ + 1½ = 3. They ate 3 muffins in all.
