Introduction
Display the image pictured in the sidebar, Clock, to the class. You might want to prompt the discussion by asking children to describe what the clock looks like and what it is used for. Ask questions such as, “What numbers do you see?” or “What does the order of the numbers mean?”
Possible student responses
- The clock says 8 o’clock.
- If this clock is saying the time right now, an hour ago it was 7 o’clock.
- The clock has all the numbers from 1 to 12 on it.
- A clock is like a number line in a circle.
- The hands more from the lower numbers towards the higher numbers, except when they move from 12 to 1.
