Introduction
Most children are familiar with jumping jacks, but you might want to have a volunteer demonstrate before you read the Headline Story. As children discuss the story, encourage them to think about how many jumping jacks they could do in a minute. You might want to point out that Eve did more than 10 jumps and discuss what that means.
Headline Story
Eve did jumping jacks for one minute. She did more than 10 jumping jacks in a minute.
Possible student responses
- Maybe Eve did 20 jumping jacks in a minute.
- Maybe she did 100 jumping jacks in a minute.
- We know Eve did not do 9 jumping jacks in a minute, because 9 is less than 10.
- If Eve did one more than 10 jumping jacks, she did at least 11 jumping jacks.
- We do not know how many jumping jacks she did.
- Eve must have used a clock or watch to time herself.
