Introduction
Display the image pictured in the sidebar, Four Ladybugs, to the class. Encourage children to make up sentences or stories about the picture. You might want to ask children how this picture is alike or different from the previous ladybug picture they saw.
Possible student responses
- There were 3 ladybugs in the other picture, but now there are 4.
- Each ladybug has 4 spots on it.
- There are 16 spots in the whole picture.
- There are 8 antennae in the picture.
- One number sentence you could write for the picture is 3 + 1 = 4.
