Introduction

Sample responses to the Headline Stories are broader than what a class might come up with, but they provide hints as to the directions you might lead the discussion. Some children may relate the math sentence in this Headline Story to the previous ladybug stories, items that can be collected, or to counting coins.

Possible student responses
- I had 6 marbles. I won 4 more. I had 10 marbles in all.
- There were 6 kids playing tag. Four more kids joined them. Then there were 10 kids playing the game.
- I had a nickel and a penny and then I found 4 more pennies.
- I had 10 cents in all, one nickel and five pennies.
- I put red rings on six of my fingers and blue rings on four of my fingers. I had 10 rings on my fingers in all.
