Introduction
Write the following story on the board.
Headline Story
Who am I? I’m a 2-digit number. I’m odd. The sum of my digits is a multiple of 6. What can you figure out about me?
Possible student responses
- Since the number is odd, it has to have a 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9 in the ones place.
- To be a multiple of 6, the sum of the digits must be 6, 12, or 18.
- The largest 2-digit number that is off is 99.
- The sum of its digits (18) is divisible by 6.
- There are 8 possible answers: 15, 51, 33, 39, 93, 57, 75, and 99.
