Headline Story
Jen’s father is going to drive from Boston to New York City, and he wants to know if he will have to stop for gas on the way. He knows how many miles per gallon his car gets.
Possible student responses
- Jen’s dad also needs to know about how many gallons of gas are in his tank when he leaves Boston. He can find out if he fills up before he leaves.
- He also needs to know about how many miles he will drive. Then he can multiply the miles per gallon that his car usually gets by the number of gallons of gas in the car to know how many miles he can drive before needing more gas. He can compare that number of miles to the number of miles from Boston to New York City.
