Read the Headline Story to the students. Encourage them to create problems that can be solved using the information from the story.
Headline Story
Yvonne planted a number of trees in a row, spacing them equally. Explain how you can find the length of the row of trees if you know how many trees there are and the amount of space between.
Possible student responses
- Since the spaces are only between the trees, there will be one less space than the number of trees.
- To find the total length, I would need to subtract 1 from the number of trees and then multiply that number by the amount of space between the trees.
