Share the Headline Story with students. Encourage them to think of creative ways to name solutions.

Violet started a number pattern with two numbers. The product of these numbers became her third number. She continued the pattern in this way, multiplying the last two numbers to get the next number.

- Violet’s pattern could have been 2, 3, 6, 18, 108, and so on.
- If one of the first two numbers was zero, the third number would be zero, and so would all the following numbers: 3, 0, 0, 0…;
- If the first two numbers were both one, all the following numbers would also be 1, 1, 1…
