Name that Attribute Link – Elementary Math

Purpose

To identify various attributes of two-dimensional shapes

Materials

attribute links or attribute blocks

Overview

Do a fast-paced drill using attribute links. Hold up an attribute link, call a child’s name, and say, “Name that link!” Remind children to give the three-word name for each link that describes the shape, color, and size. Encourage children to describe each figure in terms of number of corners or number of sides. Keep it fast and fun!

About the sequence

Part 1 focuses on naming shape, color, and size. Part 2 builds to include number of corners and sides and length of sides.

Part 1

I’ll hold up a shape. You can name its shape, color, or size.

Examples:

small, red, triangle
large, blue, square

I’ll hold up a shape. You can name its shape, color, size, number of corners, or number of sides.

Examples:

small, blue, circle, 0 sides, 0 corners
large, red, triangle, 3 sides, 3 corners
small, yellow, triangle, 3 sides, 3 corners
large, red, square, 4 sides, 4 corners
