Introduction
Show children a collection of items that can be sorted, such as attribute links, magnetic shapes, or the Face Cutouts template. (If using the Face Cutouts, they will need to be copied and cut ahead of time.) You may also want to display the Headline Story, Face Cutouts, displayed in the sidebar. Encourage children to sort the collection in any way they choose.
Possible student responses
- If using Face Cutouts, children might sort by color into three piles or into two piles (for example, blue, and not blue).
- Children might also sort by facial expression. You may choose to include the faces with tongues and hats, which will make the activity more challenging, because they introduce new attributes.
- If using attribute links, children might sort by color, shape, or size.
