Read the Headline Story to the students. Encourage them to create problems that can be solved using information from the story.
Headline Story
Dennis used a pattern to write some numbers:
2, 5, 10, 17, 26, 37
What can you say about the number sequence?
Possible student responses
- The numbers are in order from least to greatest.
- The first number is even, the second number is odd, the third is even, the fourth is odd, and so on.
- The differences between the numbers are odd: 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11.
- The differences between numbers increases by 2 each time.
- The next two numbers would be 50 and 65.
