Read the Headline Story to the students. Encourage them to create problems that can be solved using information from the story.
Headline Story
Tamika wrote a list of numbers:
2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18
Brandon wrote a list of numbers:
3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27
What can you say about the lists of numbers? What can you say about the numbers that appear in both lists?
Possible student responses
- The numbers increase in each list.
- Tamika’s list contains all even numbers.
- The numbers in Brandon’s list alternate between odd and even numbers.
- Brandon’s list contains multiples of 3.
- Every third number in Tamia’s list is a multiple of 3.
- The numbers 6, 12, and 18 are in both lists. These numbers are multiples of 6.
