Purpose
To skip-count by fives from multiples of five.
Explain to children that you will skip-count by fives to a number and then stop. At this time, children should count on without you by fives. Begin by skip-counting by fives from 0 to 15. Have children count on by fives from 15. Continue to practice skip-counting by fives in this way. Now, have children count on from any multiple of five, such as 35 or 60.
Part 1 begins with children counting on from 15. Part 2 moves to counting on from any multiple of five, from 15 to 80. The extension moves to skip-counting by fives starting at a number > 80, likely counting past 100.
We’ll begin by skip-counting by fives from 0 to 15. Then you keep going…
Number sequence:
While children are enjoying their building of mastery, feel free to repeat. When children are eager for more, try Part 2.
This time we’ll skip-count by fives starting from any number, such as from 15 to 80.
Number sequence:
As always, when children seem excited for a new challenge, move on.
This time we’ll skip-count by fives starting from any number > 80.
