Micky had four cards with the numbers 1, 2, 4, and 8 on them, one number to a card. Which numbers can she form using these cards alone or in combination, or by adding two or more of them?
Possible student responses
- She can place the 1 and 2 card side-by-side and make 12 or reverse them and make 21.
- She can use the 1, 4, and 8 to form 148, 418, 481, 814, and 841.
- She can add the 4 and 8 cards to make 12.
