Hold up two three-dimensional figures of similar size (from the classroom set). Read the Headline Story to the students. Encourage them to find more than one way to solve the problem.

Suppose you have three-dimensional figures of similar size. How might you decide which required more paper to build?
Possible student responses
- Measure the faces and find their areas.
- Unfold and compare the sizes of the faces.
- Weigh them and compare weights (take any tape off first).
- Unfold and place the nets on top of each other.
