Introduction
The purpose for the Headline Story is to encourage an understanding that there are many possible responses. Encourage children to think creatively and to make up more than one sentence about the story.
Headline Story
There are 6 houses on Avenue A, 8 houses on Avenue B, and 10 houses on Avenue C.
Possible student responses
- Avenue A has the fewest houses.
- Avenue C has the most houses.
- All three avenues have an even number of houses.
- Avenue B has 2 more houses than Avenue A and 2 fewer houses than Avenue C.
- Avenues A and B together have more houses than Avenue C.
- Some of the number sentences are: 6 + 8 + 10 = 24; 10 – 8 = 2; 10 – 6 = 4; 10 + 8 = 18.
