Headline Story
Dewey was late for his violin lesson. His lesson started at 4:15. He didn’t get there until _____, so he was _____ minutes late. If Dewey’s 1-hour lesson cost $65, how much did the missed minutes cost?
Possible student responses
- If Dewey was 60 minutes late, he missed the whole lesson, so it would cost $65.
- If he arrived at 4:20, he was 5 minutes late. The lesson costs a little more than a dollar a minute, so those 5 minutes would cost a little more than $5.00.
