Introduction
Display the Headline Story pictured in the sidebar or draw the figures on the board or on chart paper. Ask children, “What can you say about this picture? Do you notice any similarities or differences between the figures?” Encourage children to describe the picture in some way.
Possible student responses
- There are two squares and a triangle.
- Two figures are green and the third is blue.
- None of the figures look exactly alike.
- If you make a pattern with this, the next figure could be a blue triangle, or it could be a green square.
