Introduction
Demonstrate a quantity of five using two fingers on one hand and three fingers of the other hand. Then encourage children to make up sentences or stories to tell about your fingers.
Possible student responses
- There are five fingers up.
- There are five fingers down.
- One hand is showing two fingers. One hand is showing three fingers.
- Two and three is five.
- The hand that is showing two fingers has three fingers down. The hand that is showing three fingers has two fingers down.
- One hand is showing more fingers than the other hand.
- One hand is showing fewer fingers than the other hand.
