Introduction
Display the image pictured in the sidebar, Pattern Block Shapes, to the class. Then encourage children to make up sentences or stories about the picture.
Possible student responses
- There are six pattern blocks.
- I see a red pattern block, a blue pattern block, and some green ones.
- All the blocks are arranged into the same shape.
- It goes 3, 2, 1, if you count the number of blocks in each shape.
- The first shape uses only green triangles.
- The second shape uses a rhombus and a triangle.
- You could replace the rhombus in the middle one with two triangles.
