Introduction

Draw a number line on the board, similar to the one pictured to the right. Then encourage children to make up sentences or stories about the picture. If children need help coming up with some of the ideas suggested in the sample responses, pose questions such as, “Are the numbers in order?”, “What is the first number?”, “What is the last number?”, “What numbers are missing?” or “What number would come next?”
