There are 6 second graders, 9 third graders, and 16 fourth graders in the math club. What mathematical statements can you make?
Possible student responses
- There are 31 students in the club.
- There are 15 second and third graders in the club.
- There are more third graders than second graders in the club.
- There are almost as many second and third graders as there are fourth graders.
- Most students in the club are in fourth grade.
- There are more than twice as many fourth graders as second graders in the club.
- 16 – 9 = 7, so there are 7 more fourth graders than third graders.
