Introduction
Share the Headline Story with the class. If children need help coming up with some of the ideas suggested in the sample responses, pose additional questions, such as, “What do you know about Chris’ room number?”, “What do you know about Tori’s room number?” or “Are any of their rooms on the same floor?”
Headline Story
Dana is staying in Room 56 in the Number Line Hotel. Chris’ room is three rooms away from Dana’s. Tori’s room is three floors away from Dana’s room.
Possible student responses
- Chris is in Room 53 or 59.
- Tori is in Room 26 or 86.
- Chris has to be on the same floor as Dana.
- Tori is not on the same floor as Dana.
