## Purpose

To show quantities in various combinations up to 10.

This activity is a variation of other finger-play mental math exercises. Say a number from 1 to 5 and have children show the matching quantity by holding up fingers from one or two hands.

Part 1 has children show the matching quantity using one hand. Part 2 moves to showing the matching quantity using *two hands*. The extension progresses to showing combinations in a* different* way.

I’ll say a number. How can you make ____ using *one *hand?

- Say numbers 1 to 5.

*While children are enjoying their building of mastery, feel free to repeat. When children are eager for more, try Part 2.*

I’ll say a number. How can you make ____ using *two *hands?

- Say numbers 1 to 5.

*As always, when children seem excited for a new challenge, move on.*

Show ____ (number) in a *different* way.

- Say numbers 1 to 5.
